DA: Cops legally opened fire on felony suspect
DENVER (AP) – The Denver District Attorney says there will be no criminal charges filed against two Denver police officers who shot and wounded a suspect
The district attorney says officers Steven Sloan and Raul Velasquez were justified in opening fire on a suspect March 7 after he allegedly tried to evade police and appeared to try to hit an officer with his car.
The officers approached Joseph Leo Fresquez at a liquor store drive-thru after a report that he may have run a vehicle off the road.
Police say Fresquez attempted to drive off when officers approached him at the drive-thru and that prompted both officers to shot at the vehicle.
Fresquez managed to drive away and was later arrested when he tried to seek medical attention.
