David A. Boyes, 1953-2019

David Boyes

David (Dave) Alan Boyes, “Chief,” age 65 passed away peacefully surrounded by immediate family and friends at his residence in Granby, on March 27 after bravely battling brain cancer for six months.

Dave was born to Louise and William (Bill) Boyes in Denver in 1953. Joined by his older brother John, and sister Sherri, he moved to Granby in 1955. After graduating from Middle Park High school, Dave attended the University of Colorado. Upon graduating he came back to Granby, working in the family real estate and insurance businesses and becoming a volunteer firefighter for Granby Fire in 1981.

One of his proudest achievements was the 32 years he dedicated to the Granby Fire Protection District No 1. He served with grace, hard work, and fun loving care as chief for 22 years, establishing a residency program giving young men and women an opportunity to launch careers as firefighters while contributing vital services to the local community.

Dave is survived by his brother and sister, his wife Cindy Lu, his son Brian (Stephanie) Boyes, his daughter Lisa (Luke) Steckler, and his grandchild Aria Steckler.

Please join us in a casual memorial at the Granby fire house April 7 from 2 to 5 p.m. Come by and share your condolences and stories of “Chief” with family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in the memory of Chief Boyes to the Grand Fire Protection District No 1. Funds will be used to support the resident program members and applicants to continue their education in fire training and safety.
