Dead bodies were found in van near Pumphouse turnoff off Trough Road
December 19, 2011
The white van in which two dead bodies apparently sat for several days before being discovered around noon on Saturday, Dec. 17, was found about a half mile off the Trough Road at a locked gate on County Road 102, according to Grand County Sheriff Rod Johnson.
CR 102 is less than a mile southwest of the turnoff for the popular Pumphouse recreation area in what is sometimes referred to as Hartman Gulch. The road is about 11.8 miles southwest of where the Trough Road leaves US Highway 9 south of Kremmling.
Johnson said that in addition to his office and the Grand County Coroner’s Office, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation is assisting in the investigation. He said Monday morning that he could not release more information at this time.
The bodies were found by a Bureau of Land Management employee. A BLM spokesman referred all inquiries to the Sheriff’s Office.
Autopsies will be conducted Tuesday on the two bodies, said County Coroner Brenda Bock.
On Monday morning, Bock said the Grand County Sheriff’s Office hadn’t yet positively identified the bodies. She said family members will be notified before the information is released to the public.
The two dead individuals and the van are from the Denver area and appeared to have been there for days before being found on Saturday, according to a statement released by the Sheriff’s Office.
