Demise of glass recycling in Grand County is very disappointing

To the Editor:

I was very disappointed recently when I took my glass in to recycle at the Granby landfill, and instead of feeling good about saving the planet, I left feeling as crushed as the glass that I had to deposit into the landfill.

I learned that the reason why we can’t recycle glass in this county anymore is the simple fact that people cannot read, or comprehend the word recycle. A recycle container is not for your trash deposit, because you don’t want to pay to get rid of it ” it is for the simple act of recycling to save resources.

If you can’t read, or know that a glass bottle is not a newspaper or a bag of trash, or an aluminum can is different from a steel one, don’t recycle. Those of us that appreciate this privilege would like to continue to save the planet. The recycle center is not a Dumpster. Get educated in these differences if you want to use this facility, so the rest of us can keep on recycling.
