Democratic Precinct Caucuses 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 6
The Democratic Precinct Caucuses take place at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 6 at locations throughout Grand County.
There are no contested races for the Democratic Primary in Grand County, so caucus meetings will primarily involve discussing and voting on resolutions to present for inclusion in the Colorado Democratic Platform. Democtrats will be discussing national, state and local issues.
According to caucus organizers, some of the resolution topics that will be discussed include: corporate personhood and the Citizen’s United decision; fair and reasonable tax reform; employee rights and fair workplace practices; indefinite detention and suspension of habeas corpus rights under the National Defense Authorization Act; protecting our environment through water conservation and protection; hydraulic fracturing (fracking) and community rights; police presence in schools and the impact on criminalization of juveniles; and the Colorado state budget and the impact on education funding.
At the precinct caucus, members will also be selecting delegates from each precinct to the Democratic Grand County Assembly and Convention on March 20. They will also select 10 delegates from these delegates to represent Grand County at the Colorado Democratic Convention on April 14, in Pueblo.
