Denver man drowns in Lake Granby

Reid Tulley
Grand Lake, CO Colorado

A possible drowning at Stillwater Campground on Lake Granby was reported Friday afternoon, July 20.

Grand Fire Protection District No. 1 responded to the call and was joined by East Grand Fire Protection District No. 4, Summit County Water Rescue Team, and Colorado State Parks officials.

The body of Jesus Jiron, 34, of Denver was located by a State Park boat equipped with sonar after several hours of searching and was recovered at 9:57 p.m. He was pronounced dead on scene and is assumed to have drowned.

Jiron was spending the weekend with his family at the campground and was swimming with his son and daughter between the marina and the southern shore of the campground when he was last seen by his daughter “struggling” to swim and then went under after a passing boat’s wake overtook him, said Grand County Sheriff Rod Johnson.

The children were retrieved by a family member who then attempted to locate Jesus but was unsuccessful.
