For the second year in a row, two Grand County resorts made USA Today’s 2018 Ski and Snowboard Readers’ Choice Award’s top 10 cross-country ski resorts.
This year, Devil’s Thumb Ranch unseated the White Grass Ski Touring Center in West Virginia to take the top spot and Latigo Ranch is the ninth cross-country resort.
Last year, Devil’s Thumb, located outside Tabernash, ranked third and Latigo Ranch, located northwest of Kremmling, placed fifth.
Devil’s Thumb boasts 75 miles of trails at the base of the Continental Divide for every skill level, as well as classes and Nordic ski rentals. Skiers can purchase season or day passes for the ranch’s trails, which are open for the season.
Devil’s Thumb also received the distinction of the eleventh best resort in Colorado this year in the Condé Nast Traveler Reader’s Choice Awards.
Latigo Ranch offers 31 miles of groomed trails for beginners and experienced skiers and 200 miles of backcountry terrain in the Arapaho National Forest, as well as ski rentals. Latigo typically tries to have their Nordic trails open for skiing the week before Christmas.
Each year USA Today holds a series of voting contests called 10 Best, covering an expansive range of topics, including everything from best frequent flyer programs to best holiday event at a theme park. A panel of experts help pick the top 20 nominations and the top 10 are decided by popular vote.
