Diesel repair shop fills need in Grand County
May 10, 2009
Kyle Schirado wanted to open his own business for 20 years. He thought about it for 20 years while he worked on heavy and medium duty trucks in Broomfield and later when he moved to Grand County to work on a fleet of concrete mixer trucks.
“Everyone thinks about owning their own business,” Schirado said. “I thought about it for 20 years. I wondered if I was good enough. If I would make it.”
The time to stop wondering came in 2008 when the company he was working for shut down and he had to make a decision – leave Grand County to work for someone else or fill the need he saw in this area and work for himself.
“We jumped right in,” he said. “And I do love it.”
Schirado saw a need for heavy and medium duty truck repair in Grand County and opened Granby Truck Shop in June 2008.
“Almost everyone I run into was taking their trucks to Denver (for repairs),” he said. “And it was one horror story after the next.
“For any employer who sends a truck to Denver, that’s a day’s labor lost – two hours there and back. Then if you have to leave the truck for repairs, that’s two days lost.”
Schirado is glad he took the risk and opened his own shop. He filled a need and has a steady flow of loyal customers.
Granby Truck Shop is located at 62429 U.S. Highway 40, next to Bill’s Auto in Granby. It is open five days a week, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Call for an appointment, (970) 531-5404, or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
