Dinner, silent auction supports Outdoor Education for community fifth-graders

Special to the Sky-Hi News

Granby Elementary School’s 5th grade class will hold its annual fundraiser dinner and silent auction at Middle Park High School from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. this Thursday, Feb. 28.

Parent organizers said the proceeds will be used to support 49 5th-graders on a five-day Outdoor Education experience in Estes Park. The week will be filled with many activities that all people should know who live in Grand County. Some of the activities include: Map and compass reading, wilderness survival, and GPS basics among many others. –

The supper menu features chili, cinnamon roll, hotdogs, dessert, and a drink. The 5th graders will be helping to serve dinner as well as bus the tables. There is also a silent auction.

Come eat dinner, browse the auction items and make bids. Committee parents will notify those with the winning bids. The auction will have a variety of items including two- to three-night stays at the Western Riveria, two Nordic passes to Grand Lake Golf Course, Denver Zoo tickets, passes to Hot Sulphur Springs and the Denver Art Museum, Snow Mountain Ranch Ski passes and many, many more items.

The fundraiser is also a chance for the 5th graders to develop job-readiness skills. “The kids get a chance showcase their wait and bussing skills, as well as visit with the community members. We feel this is an important fundraiser for the girls and boys because they get to experience preparing and cleaning up after an event and have fun doing it,” said one parent organizer.

Cost for a ticket to the supper is $7.50. Tickets are available from any scout in Pack 93.
