Doggie Drag results, dog park proposed

Kristen Lodge / Sky-Hi News |
Last Saturday morning runners and walkers with their dogs came out for the Grand County Pet Pals annual Doggie Drag 5K at Grand Park. All proceeds from the event will help spay/neuter and provide medical needs for the animals of Grand County. The event MC was Jim Kroepfl who provided commentary and music throughout the morning.
The organization raised just under $10,000 through sponsorships, silent auction, donations, and race participants, said Pet Pals president, Lisa Jonas.
Dog Park
At the event Pet Pals had flyers about the potential for a dog park at the Shorefox property in Granby.
“The dog park ideas was started by someone posting a question on Grand County Online Garage Sale on Facebook about a dog park,” said Jonas.
“The Pet Pals organization wants to take a lead role.”
They are in the beginning phases of the proposal and Jonas is reaching out to the community to gauge continued interest. She is looking for people who will step up to volunteer and help sponsor the proposed dog park.
“We envision a great place where people hang out with their dogs.”
Other locations they are modeling the proposed park after include parks in Fort Collins and Washington Park in Denver.
“We are gathering best practice and design options. One thing for sure we will have a small dog and large dog park. Entrances will be double gated,” said Jonas.
Next Steps
The organization needs to calculate how much the fencing will cost for about 2 to 3 acres of space. Then, they need to find funding sources. Anyone who wants to get involved or has questions can email Lisa Jonas president@gcpetpals.org.
