Don’t keep Grand Lake Elementary open at expense of other students
May 19, 2011
I recently attended an East Grand School District Board of Education meeting. I did this because of many announcements posted within the town of Grand Lake. Not only was I shocked by the lack of humanity in the audience, I was dismayed by the content of information presented.
It seems the school board is being informed by a local and vocal contingent that the wish of the Grand Lake community is to keep Grand Lake Elementary open regardless of any and all financial ramifications. I am a resident of the Grand Lake area, and I know many other Grand Lake residents who are not in support of fiscal irresponsibility by EGSD.
If being responsible means the closure of Grand Lake Elementary and moving 40-50 students to another high performing school thus providing funds to enrich the education of more than 1,000 other students in the district, it seems most reasonable. Be heard Grand County citizens! If you oppose fiscal irresponsibility and are concerned about the education of all EGSD students, contact the school board and let them know they are supported.
