DOW warns hunters of re-closures

Grand County, CO Colorado

Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials are advising hunters in Game Management Units 28 and 18 in Grand County that beginning Sept. 4, hunting access to these areas may be restricted by the U.S. Forest Service during the upcoming seasons as they continue to cut hazard trees along the area’s roads and trails.

The closures coincide with several big-game hunting seasons, including moose, mule deer, elk, bear and mountain goat during archery, muzzleloading and the first through third rifle seasons.

The Forest Service advises that their projects will temporarily close portions of the Fraser Experimental Forest and the Arapaho National Forest near Winter Park and Fraser in addition to roads and trails in the Stillwater and Kawuneeche area outside of Grand Lake. Nearly 29,000 acres, several roads, trails and access points will be off-limits to the public, including hunters, until the approximate completion date of Nov. 15.

For additional details about these closures, hunters are advised to contact the USFS Sulphur Ranger District at 970-887-4100, or visit: http://www.fs.usda.gov/goto/arp/sulphurupdates

“The best source of information regarding closures in any hunting area is the land management agency responsible for that area,” said Lyle Sidener, Area Wildlife Manager in Hot Sulphur Springs.
