E. Grand superintendent candidates visit this week
Four candidates for the open East Grand School District superintendent position will be interviewed this week in Granby. One candidate will be in town each day Monday through Friday to tour the area and answer questions from board members and district staff.The four finalists for superintendent are Dr. Scott Maline, currently superintendent of schools in Minden, Neb., Gregory Randall, superintendent in Collbran, Kirk E. Nelson, superintendent in Prairie City, Iowa, and Nancy Karas, who is the principal of East Grand Middle School in Granby.Maline will be interviewed on Monday, Randall on Tuesday, Nelson on Wednesday and Karas on Thursday.Each days session has a set schedule of events for the candidates. The board plans to hold an executive session on Friday, Jan. 18, to discuss the candidates. The board has stated that it intends to make its selection by mid-January. The boards next scheduled public meeting of the board is Tuesday, Jan. 22. Once approved, the new superintendent will be assuming his or her duties beginning July 1, 2008.The nationwide search for a new East Grand School District superintendent was prompted by the retirement of Robb Rankin who is about to complete his 12th year in that position. His retirement will become effective when the current school year ends on June 30.The superintendent search was conducted for the East Grand School District by McPherson & Jacobson L.L.C., beginning last August. The consultants of McPherson & Jacobson L.L.C. reviewed, screened, and conducted extensive background checks of all the applicants. A total of 15 applicants applied for the position. During executive session last Monday, the consultants presented the list of applicants to the Board of Education and provided them with detailed background information on each applicant. The board selected the four candidates who most closely match the selection criteria established by the board, school staff and community.The consultant from McPherson & Jacobson L.L.C. will continue to work with the East Grand Board of Education and the new superintendent through the next year.
