Eagle County schools slash budget, cut jobs
EAGLE – The Eagle County school board is cutting $5 million and 48 positions in the wake of dropping revenue and state funding.
The cuts in the next school year’s budget follow $4 million in reductions in the last budget. The Vail Daily reports the school board voted earlier this week to eliminate 20 support staff positions and 28 teaching jobs.
School district officials say the reductions will result in slightly larger classes. Some summer programs and after-school programs are also being cut.
Eagle County school officials say state funding has dropped 13 percent over the past three years.
