East Grand Gridiron Bash to feature nationally acclaimed speaker/mountaineer
October 21, 2011
The East Grand Gridiron club will be holding its annual Gridiron Bash at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 28 at SolVista Base Lodge. This year’s bash will feature nationally known mountaineer, speaker and author Eric Alexander.
On May 25, 2001, Eric defied the odds and scaled Mount Everest guiding his blind friend Erik Weihenmayer to its lofty 29,035 foot summit. In 2002 the pair traveled to Russia and climbed Mt. Elbrus at 18,500 ft, and again found success on Mt. Kosciusko, Australia.
Eric has been featured in Time Magazine and on the Today Show. He is the author of “The Summit,” an account of his experience climbing Mount Everest.
Eric has also produced a video, “Farther than the Eye Can See,” an intimate look at what Time Magazine called one of the most successful Everest expeditions ever.
Everyone told blind mountaineer EriK Weihenmayer that he did not belong on Mount Everest, and in this stunning documentary from the top of Everest, he proved them wrong. This video was nominated for two Emmy awards and has taken home top honors at 17 film festivals.
Eric’s message focuses on the importance of teamwork, leadership, courage, and integrity. Eric challenges each listener to consider “What is your Everest”?
Eric shares this inspirational story with audiences all over the country and when he is not traveling he teaches disabled skiers in Vail and directs “Adventures Beyond Limits,” an organization that educates and encourages youth with disabilities in the outdoors
Eric will be selling his book and documentary at the event and half of all the proceeds will go to The Grid Iron Club. For more information go to http://www.highersummits.com
