The East Grand School District (EGSD) Board of Education held a Community Forum Tuesday night Nov. 1 at Middle Park High School.

The forum was an opportunity for parents of students to address Board members in an informal roundtable setting to discuss issues facing the EGSD. The forum for parents was held immediately following a forum held for staff members at MPHS to discuss issues and concerns for those employed at the school.

The Community Forum was attended by all six members of the EGSD Board of Education: Mike McGinley, Taunia Shipman, Phyllis Price, Phil Brooks, Bambi Statz and Angel DeCicco.

The forum took the format of three separate roundtables with two Board members at each table and a series of issues placards at each table highlighting potential topics for review. Community members sparsely attended the forum though with six parents in showing up to talk about issues with the Board. The small number of attendees did allow for an intimate setting and personal discussions between parents and Board members.

A number of issues were presented to the Board by parents ranging from the difficulties and benefits created by the District’s technology program to the importance of diversity in the school to minority students.

The next Community Forum for parents to address the EGSD Board of Education will be held at Fraser Valley Elementary at 5 p.m. on Dec. 6 with the EGSD Board meeting to follow at 6 p.m.
