GRANBY – Jody Mimmack has been selected as the new superintendent for the East Grand School District.

Mimmack, a 25-year veteran of public education as a paraprofessional, teacher, and administrator who has been employed the past 13 years with the Mesa County Valley School District No. 51 in Grand Junction, will replace Nancy Karas. Karas is retiring after a career at East Grand School District as a teacher, a Middle School principal, and the past five years as superintendent of schools.

Mimmack most recently served at District No. 51 as executive director of achievement and growth/instructional support.

The board of education’s unanimous selection was made at its Feb. 5 meeting.

The superintendent search was conducted by Bob Cito of the Colorado Association of School Boards. The nation-wide search produced 36 applicants, of which the board narrowed the candidate pool to four candidates for interviews. Three candidates chose to interview.

The interviews were conducted on Feb. 1 and consisted of a series of interviews from the board of education, two citizen-teacher groups, and an administrator group. While the school board is charged with selecting the successful candidate, input was received from the three groups as to each candidate’s qualifications, strengths and weaknesses.

Mimmack has also held the positions of principal at both middle school and high school levels. Educational degrees included bachelor’s and master’s degrees in special education from the University of Northern Colorado. In 2006 she earned a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy from the University of Denver.

Mimmack and husband Joe Mauch have three young adult children: Caroline who recently moved from Breckenridge to work in Denver, James who is a junior majoring in geology at Montana State University and Noelle, a freshman nursing student at Regis University. The entire family are teachers: Joe, special education and secondary science; Caroline, early childhood; James, outdoor education; and Noelle, swimming and athletics. All are outdoor enthusiasts and looking forward to home base becoming East Grand, according to a press release.

Mimmack starts as East Grand’s superintendent on July 1.
