A local economic activist and international businesswoman will speak about her work on Wednesday, Dec. 9 at Church of the Eternal Hills in Tabernash.

Susanne Jalbert, Ph.D., will speak about her work in Nepal and around the globe.

Since first visiting Nepal in the late 1980s, Jalbert has been involved in the founding of five women-centered organizations there.

Dhaka Weaves of Nepal, a non-governmental organization that Jalbert helped found, will be one of the subjects of her presentation.

The organization facilitates the economic empowerment of Nepali female weavers.

Much of Jalbert’s work has revolved around the idea that equitable economic development promotes security and peace.

Dhaka Weaves, as a social business, works toward a social goal of equality for Nepali women.

Jalbert has also worked with the United States Agency for International Development for more than 25 years and has played a number of roles in projects around the world.

Jalbert was the architect of the Iraqi Small Business Development Centers program and has served as senior diplomat at the Heart Consulate in Afghanistan.

She also founded and operates Jalbert Consulting, an international and domestic business development-consulting agency based in Winter Park.

Jalbert will give an afternoon presentation at 3:30 p.m. and an evening presentation at 6:30 p.m.

Weavings from Dhaka Weaves will be available for purchase with all proceeds going to Nepal.
