Ed Saltzman – The United States has nothing to apologize for
January 29, 2010
To the Editor:
You turn the TV on today and you see the United States rushing to Haiti with aid, Americans donating money to save people they have never met and American people adopting Haitian orphans. We are always the first on the scene of disasters.
We also see heroic a firefighter dangling from a helicopter risking his life to pull a dog out of a river and getting bitten in the process; nevertheless, the dog is rescued. Acts like this are perpetrated by Americans every day.
America is a country whose population for the most part want to help others not so fortunate, but we have a president who apologizes for what I don’t know.
Teddy Roosevelt once stated that other countries dislike us for our audacity – we did not get to be the greatest country in the world by being mealy mouthed.
I ask you fellow citizens what does America have to apologize for?
