Editor misunderstands concerns of community

I have been reading the responses to the photo of the “young woman” on the front page of the Oct. 3 paper.

I agree that it was an insensitive action by the paper. I also believe that the new editor misunderstands the concerns voiced by our Grand County community members.

No one approves or supports the actions of this citizen. The concern is that, as a community, we would like to believe there might have been someone or some agency that could have stepped in and helped Susan before she felt it necessary to take such desperate measures.

We may never know what factors that caused a once respected and caring community member to follow such a self-destructive path. Our community cares and our only hope is that other persons faced with what may be difficult choices and problems will seek help and direction from the members of our county willing to aid them in their struggle.
