Edward F. Hanifen

Edward F. Hanifen, 83, a well-respected and longtime Colorado banker, passed away peacefully in his home in Lakewood on Jan. 23, 2009.

He is survived by his loving wife, Iris; brother Bishop Rockard C. Hanifen, and sister Dorothy (Gene) Lomme, children Edward R. (Robin) Hanifen, Mary (Dick) Himes, Dorothy “Dottie” Bentley, Michael (Mandy) Hanifen, Robin (Gary) Mastellar and Debra Eatherton. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Eddie Jr., Sarah, Luke, William, Kelly, Andrea and Mega, and 4 great grandchildren, Taylor, Haley Marie, Eddie Anthony and Kaylon.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward A. and Dorothy R., brother Robert, son Danny and former wife Gene Fraser.



An ardent believer in Jesuit education, Ed graduated from Regis High School and Regis University. His faith guided all aspects of his life, including his career as founding partner of Aurora National Bank, his service as a chaplain’s assistant during World War II, and his outstanding contributions to numerous civic organizations. An avid golfer, fisherman and outdoor enthusiast, one of his greatest joys was spending time with family and friends at his cabin in Grand Lake.

His vigor for life and ability to make lifelong friends won over all who knew him.



A vigil and funeral mass were held on Wednesday, Jan. 28, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Lakewood.
