EGMS skiers glide away at Vail

The East Grand Middle School Nordic Ski Team put in a strong performance Jan. 20 at the Colorado High School Ski League skate race in Vail.

In team results, both the boys’ and girls’ teams took fifth place in a competitive field of seven teams from across the Rocky Mountain region of Colorado. There were close to 500 cross county skiers at the event skiing in good conditions on a relatively flat course.

Gray Barker was the top skier for the boy Cubs for East Grand, taking 21st overall in a competitive field of 75 skiers. He was followed by Corbin Salomon (27th), Andy Troccoli (29th), Kyle Vogelbacher (32nd), Nick Forquer (35th), Oliver Schneller (39th), Chance Hein (44th), Dave Hammond (54th)), Caden Hansen (60th), Jack Nesvara (65th) and Ben Ewert (68th).



For the girl Cubs, Sylvia Brower was the top skier for East Grand with an 11th place finish overall in a field of 49. Elizabeth Hammond was next in 16th place, followed by Annie Kuhns (28th), Rosemary Trotter (33rd), Sierra Jamison (35th), Taylor Lahrman (39th) and Gabrielle Pellini (40th).

Skiing the course as an “independent” third grade skier from Granby Elementary School, Adrien Brower skied the three-kilometer course with the boys and came in 61st.



The next race for East Grand takes place on the home trails at Snow Mountain Ranch/YMCA of the Rockies on Saturday. This is also a skate race.
