Could eighth-graders may be smarter than the school board?

In an impromptu Brain Bowl match at the East Grand Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 31, the region’s eighth-grade Brain Bowl champions Nelson Mitchell, Chris Ciccarelli, Will Colley and Daniel Kopp of East Grand Middle School, beat out school board members Barbara Ahrens, Joan Evans, Melissa Quinn, Mike Thompson and District Superintendent Nancy Karas in a match that resulted in a 9-7 eighth-grade victory.

Team members answered 10 questions about biology, geography, grammar, meteorology, chemistry, history and math.

School Board President Tom Sifers moderated the event.
