Election still in works to decide fate of Fraser Sanitation District

An election to decide whether the Fraser Sanitation District should dissolve and be taken over by the Town of Fraser is still in the works. A date has not been set, but could be as far off as November or next spring.
First, the Town of Fraser and three partnering sanitation districts ” Winter Park Ranch Water and Sanitation District, Grand County Water and Sanitation District No. 1 and Fraser Sanitation District ” must agree on the details of how the dissolution would work.
A report is due to the District Court this week, but Fraser Sanitation District attorney, Jim Bailey, has requested an extension so the four entities can finish sorting through the details and find agreement.
Once everyone agrees on a course of action, the plan will be presented to Judge Mary Hoak and a date will be set for the election, said Fraser Town Manager Jeff Durbin.
“(Fraser Sanitation District attorney) Jim Bailey wants to have this set up, should the voters say ‘yes,’ after that election the pieces start falling into place so there won’t be another long process after the election,” Durbin said.
Once a date is set for the election, the Sky-Hi Daily News and the Town of Fraser will present an explanation of what will happen if the Fraser Sanitation District is dissolved or if the dissolution is not approved to help voters make an informed choice.
