Elk shot in Rocky Mountain National Park

An elk was illegally shot this week in Rocky Mountain National Park.

Park officials released a statement late Wednesday regarding the incident. Wednesday afternoon park rangers wee notified that a park visitor had shot an elk near Mills Lake, which is on the eastern side of the Park. The cow elk was later found dead.

Park officials are investigating the incident and no further information is being released at this time.

Hunting is prohibited in Rocky Mountain National Park. Possession of firearms within the Park is also highly regulated.
