Enrollment at Fort Lewis College back up

DURANGO, Colo. (AP) – Enrollment at Fort Lewis College in Durango is up for the first time since 2007.

The college said Monday that it has 3,762 students for the fall semester. That’s up about 2 percent from fall 2009, when enrollment fell to its lowest level in a decade.

A record 4,441 students were enrolled in 2001.

Fort Lewis says it has a total of 3,864 students this fall when including distance learners and others who earn credit at the college without physically attending classes on campus.

The school says changes in how it reports its enrollment make it difficult to say how many students are Native Americans. Colorado pays the tuition of Native American students at Fort Lewis College under a 1910 federal agreement.
