Evacuation alerts lifted in Church Park Fire
October 7, 2010
Evacuation alerts have been lifted in the Church Park Fire area near Fraser as crews make progress in securing the perimeter around the fire.
“The increase from 40 to 70 percent containment was due to the great work the crews were doing in securing the line, felling dangerous trees, and making additional fire line” said Operation Section Chief Shawn Pearson.
The Church Park Fire is located approximately five miles west of Fraser on the south side of Sheep Mountain and is burning on National Forest and Bureau of Land Management system lands.
The fire is approximately 473 acres in size. There was a reduction in acreage due to better fire mapping.
Crews will be back on the fire today to reinforce the line and work the few hot spots on the interior of the fire, mostly on the northwest side.
The Roosevelt Hot Shot Crew and a Colorado State Crew are working together on the south and east sides to further secure that section of the line.
Weather is expected to continue to help firefighters today with cool temperatures and high humidity.
Overnight rain aided firefighters and showers may continue today, with rain and snow predicted for Friday an highs in the 50.
Fire official said the public can expect to continue to see smoke and burning in the interior of the fire until snow covers the area.
