Fallen deputy to be honored in Greeley

GREELEY, Colo. (AP) – Law enforcement officers from around Colorado are expected to be in Greeley to honor a Weld County sheriff’s deputy who was shot and killed last week.

A memorial service for 43-year-old Sam Brownlee was scheduled Monday morning at the University of Northern Colorado.

Brownlee died Tuesday after he was shot during a struggle with a suspected car thief. The suspect, 20-year-old Rueben Reyes, was shot by other officers and later died.

The shooting happened in Evans after a high-speed chase that began in Morgan County.

Brownlee is the first Weld County deputy killed in the line of duty in 70 years.

A memorial fund has been established at Chase Bank.
