Sky-Hi News Staff Report

A fatality occurred at Rocky Mountain National Park Saturday, Sept. 29, near Deer Mountain, a 10,000-foot peak located near the Beaver Meadows entrance to the park.

Around 5:50 p.m. the national park’s dispatch center received a cell phone call alerting them that a female hiker, identified as Toni B. Henthorn, 50, of Highlands Ranch, had taken a reported 40 to 50 foot fall down the north side of Deer Mountain.

The victim had been hiking the popular trail with a family member.

Park rangers reached her body at 8:10 p.m., which was located three miles from the Deer Mountain Trailhead in rocky, steep terrain.

Park staff stayed with her body overnight and removed the body at 4:45 p.m. on Sunday. The body was flown to the Larimer County Coroners.

Four members of Larimer County Search and Rescue assisted park rangers.
