Father, daughter featured on facing pages of newspaper

To the Editor:

What a coincidence. The Dec. 27 issue of the Middle Park Times (the newspaper’s week-in-review edition sent out to subscribers) carried a “Conversation with … Ed Raffety” on page 4.

On page 5, opposite, was the article about the shakeup at the Grand Lake Metro Recreation District.

One of the prouder moments in my life was as a board member and president of GLMRD in the 1970s and the addition of the back 9 to the golf course, two tennis courts, funding for snowmobile trail grooming and, last but far from least, funding and support of general recreation for youth.

Over the past few years, the recreation program and theater for youth has really progressed. But look what happened.

The majority, not all, of the GLMRD board has forgotten that the name is the Grand Lake Metropolitan Recreation District, not the Grand Lake Golf Course.

Those of your who have benefited from the recreation programs as parents or as participants now grown up and eligible to vote or run for the board in the spring election have a job to do to get the GLMRD back on track for all taxpayers.

The next coincidence was the picture of the beautiful, former recreation direction opposite the page with the picture of that old man.

I am sure many of you, but not all, recognize she is my daughter.

I just had to respond to the recent articles on opposite pages of father and daughter.
