Fern Lake Fire update

Sky-Hi News staff report

The Fern Lake Fire in Rocky Mountain National Park continues to burn and has burned 792 acres thus far. The fire remains 30 percent contained.

The fire remains at the 30-percent containment mark due to the indirect strategy the firefighters are utilizing.

The firefighters are using an indirect strategy due to the danger associated with directly battling this fire because it continues to burn in tough terrain, which contains a large amount of beetle-killed trees.

The dry and windy weather this past weekend contributed to the fire growing to its current size. The weather will continue to be dry and windy for the next few days, however, some precipitation and humidity is expected to move in during the end of the week.
