Fire training on Saturday in Fraser

East Grand Fire Protection will be conducting a training session in their burn station on Saturday in Fraser. If residents see smoke or fire in that area, there is no need to worry, said training coordinator Eric Gettenberg of the East Grand Fire Protection.

Starting at 8 a.m. Saturday morning, the Grand County Training Officers Association’s training staff will ignite a live fire for their 15 veteran and student firefighters from five of the Grand County fire protection districts.

The fire will be started and contained in the enclosed building in Fraser, and smoke may be visible to residents.

“We follow state guidelines for the training,” said Gettenberg. “The team of instructors will be lighting and re-lighting the fire until the students meet objectives.”

The training session will end by 4 p.m.

Firefighters in this training session are working towards their state certification, and some are in the current training academy that began in February. At the end of the academy, students will obtain their Colorado State Firefighter 1 Certification and Hazardous Materials Operations certification, which is the state requirement.

If people are interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter they are encouraged to contact the fire protection district that they live in.
