Firefighters snuff out brush fire in Rendezvous

WINTER PARK – East Grand Fire Department responded to a ground fire in Rendezvous on Sunday afternoon, June 26, at the north end of the subdivision near its border with Winter Park Ranch.

The fire burned about a quarter-acre of private property on Bridgers Trace before being extinguished by fire crews, according to East Grand Fire Chief Todd Holzwarth.

Crews from Hot Sulphur and Granby fire departments assisted in fighting the fire.

Winter Park-Fraser Police Chief Glen Trainor said his department investigated the scene but was unable to find any evidence of what caused the fire. It could have been a cigarette butt or old lightning strike that smoldered until strong winds and warm temperatures got the fire going or it could have been fireworks, he said.

Fire crews got the fire out in about 20 minutes but spent hours after that hand-digging a containment line around it, Holzwarth said.
