First responders assist person caught in avalanche on Berthoud Pass
Avalanche danger in the Berthoud Pass area is rated Considerable
8 a.m. Wednesday update: Grand County Search and Rescue stated the avalanche victim sustained serious injuries and that first responders evacuated him from the area in a toboggan.
An avalanche occurred on Berthoud Pass on Tuesday, burying one individual. The person was able to self-rescue from the avalanche debris, according to preliminary reports from the Grand County Sheriff’s Office.
Grand County Search and Rescue responded at about 3:16 p.m. to assist the individual, in addition to Grand County EMS and the sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office stated that emergency responders are in the field and currently in contact with the subject.
