Food drive helps those in need

The Grand Lake Men’s and Ladies’ Golf Clubs are sponsoring a countywide food drive and fundraiser July 10-18 to help restock the shelves of Trinity Church of the Pines Food Bank and Angels Outreach.

It could not have come at a better time.

“The needs this year are like nothing we have ever seen,” says Deb Gahan. “The number of people who have benefited from the food bank and outreach program is up 80 percent from last year. Food is just flying off of the shelves.”

Drop boxes for food-item donations will be located around the county. The boxes will be wrapped in festive holiday paper to reflect the theme of “Christmas in July.” Volunteers will also collect donations at this year’s Buffalo Barbeque celebration in Grand Lake.

The food drive concludes on Monday, July 18, when the Grand Lake Golf Course donates a reduction in the cost of a round of golf and a cart. In return for a contribution to the food bank, there will be a non-members fee of $25.

Post food-drive fun at the Sly Fox Restaurant and Lounge at the golf course will feature reduced prices on food and drinks from 4 p.m – 5 p.m. Call 970-627-8008 for tee times.
