Former Rep. Condit is at courthouse in Levy trial
WASHINGTON (AP) – Former California Rep. Gary Condit is at the D.C. Superior Courthouse waiting to testify in the Chandra Levy murder trial.
Ingmar Guandique, a native of El Salvador, is on trial for the murder and attempted sexual assault of Levy nearly a decade ago.
The Washington intern’s disappearance made headlines after she was romantically linked with Condit. He was once the main suspect, but police no longer believe he was involved.
It is not clear exactly what testimony Condit will offer.
Prosecutors acknowledged in their opening statement that police failed in their initial investigation of Levy’s disappearance by focusing on Condit to the exclusion of anyone else.
