Frank Watts: Iran invasion another liberal straw horse
To the Editor:
In an otherwise reasoned opinion piece about American wars, Ms. Muftic again created a straw horse and then used it to attack conservatives (neo-cons, whoever they are). She states “Neo-cons beating the war drums to attack Iran without a plan to extricate ourselves from the consequences of invasions are frankly nuts.”
Her sources for such a divisive, nasty, mean-spirited charge are nowhere to be found. I’ve listened to conservatives in office, running for office, on the radio and on TV but have never heard them talk about invasion of Iran. They speak of aiding Israel in blasting Iranian atomic bomb sites or even of doing it on our own, on the basis that Iran with the bomb is a very frightening thought.
I’ve heard conservatives speak of not taking any option off the table, but I’ve never heard any of them talk about invasion. So the liberal practice of creating a condition that doesn’t exist so as to point out how stupid it is, puts our favoring invasion in the minds of your readers. This is exactly what Obama frequently does – the latest being that Republicans want to drill wells in Chesapeake Bay.
Let’s remind your readers that the most costly wars (blood and treasure) of recent times were brought on us by Democrats: Truman in Korea and Johnson in Vietnam – and that’s no straw horse.
