Fraser, Grand Lake used book sales offer high-quality bargains

Summer in Grand County means different things to different people, like rafting, hiking, wildflowers and outdoor concerts.

But for booklovers, summer also means finding bargains on books at the annual used book sales, sponsored by the Friends of the Grand County Libraries. The sales offer hundreds of used items – from books to music CDs to puzzles and games – and those who attend can easily fill a bag for under $10. (And videocassette tapes are free!)

There are two major used book sales left this year- one at the Juniper Library in Grand Lake, and one at the Fraser Valley Library in Fraser. The used book sales are the largest fundraisers for the Friends of the Grand County Library. The money from the book sales is distributed to the branch libraries by the Friends organization.

The Kremmling and Granby libraries held their book sales this year and they were very successful, according to Mary Anne Hanson Wilcox, Executive Director of the Grand County Library District.

“Kremmling’s sale was the first they’ve done in several years, and it was a huge success,” Wilcox said. “Profits from the Granby Library’s book sale were great and yet there are still some wonderful titles available for sale in both libraries.”

Although these used book sales are the largest fundraisers for the Friends, there are also ongoing used books sales year- round at the Kremmling, Granby, Juniper, and Fraser Valley libraries – so don’t feel bad if you miss the major sales this summer. But if you’re around this weekend or the next, you may want to drop by.

“There are hundreds, maybe thousands of books,” said Ally Delaney, the newest member of the Friends Board. “This annual sale is a wonderful opportunity to pick up books for a very reasonable price.”

New this year at the Fraser Valley Library will be a separate room for children’s materials, and a collection of coffee table books which make great gifts. Also, local author Joan Shaw will be there to sign copies of her latest book.
