Fraser/Winter Park Police Department seeks officers

The Fraser/Winter Park Police Department is in the process of hiring one police officer. And if Chief Glen Trainor gets his way, and the town of Fraser agrees, they will be hiring one more officer at the beginning of 2012.

Det. Amy Zacek Smith resigned to take a position in the police department at the University Colorado – Boulder. The second position was frozen in January 2010.

Trainor said the police department just started taking applications and hasn’t interviewed any candidates yet. The department hasn’t received many applications, which Trainer says is a trend in many law enforcement agencies across the state.

Additionally, he said, “It’s tough to find someone to move to Grand County in the winter.”

In addition to public safety, crime prevention, and traffic enforcement, the mission of the Fraser/Winter Park Police department is “serving others to make a difference.” Trainor says that the police officers in Fraser and Winter Park keep a positive public presence and are continuing to develop their personal relationships with the community.
