Free recycling at ACE Hardware in Granby
September 21, 2012
Free recycling returns to Ace Hardware in Granby from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22.
“Everyone is very excited that it is back,” said Amy Kaplanis, vice president for Country Ace Hardware in Granby. “And now it’s even easier because no one has to sort their recyclable materials.”
After the previous recycling program became unsustainable for the company that was running the operation, free recycling in Grand County appeared doomed.
That was until the town of Granby as well as Waste Management stepped up to foot the bill to keep the operation going.
The town will be providing $400 a month to Waste Management who will be running the operation at cost.
The new recycling program will be “single stream,” which eliminates the need for consumers to sort recyclable materials.
Six containers will be provided by Waste Management for the operation and the program has received enough funding to operate for the remainder of the year, at which time the town of Granby will decide whether to continue funding the operation.
Everyone seems to be looking forward to the start of the operation, according to Kaplanis.
“It adds another element of fun to Saturday mornings,” she said.
