Freeride Festival debuts at Winter Park Resort
This weekend kicks of the very first Colorado Freeride Festival at Trestle Bike Park. The park, located in Winter Park resort, boasts more than 40 miles of gravity-fed trails.
The festival, one of the largest in the nation this year, is expected to draw thousands of viewers. Competing for more than $40,000 in prizes will be some of the best in the sport.
Current Freeride Mountain Bike Association overall leader Sam Pilgrim will compete in the FMBA Gold Level Slopestyle Event as well as Brandon Semenuk who won three Slopestyle events in Trestle Bike Park and has won the last two FMBA events held in July. Also attending will be Cam McCaul, who won the Slopestyle event last year, and Greg Watts, returning strong after his injury and rehab.
Competitors not to miss in the Specialized Enduro Stage Race include Ross Schnell, the defending champion at Trestle Bike Park, returning competitor and industry big name Mark Weir, as well as Nate Hills, the bronze medalist from last year’s Trestle Enduro event.
Events include: Shimano Slopestyle, a FMBA Gold Level slopestyle which is a single-line course featuring drops, dirt jumps, elevated wall ride and elevated stunts; the Specialized Enduro Stage Race, which includes five stages lasting over three days; Epic Single-track X-Country race; and the Intergalactic Pond Crossing Championships, in which athletes attempt to cross a narrow track floating across the village pond with the fastest time while remaining dry.
