Friday night dinners begin at Cranmer Chapel
November 24, 2009
Volunteers from the community are ready to share free meals for those in need at the Cranmer Memorial Chapel (behind the movie theater) in Winter Park starting Thanksgiving evening and continuing every other Friday through the end of the ski season, from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
Winter Park Resort and YMCA of Rockies each take a night cooking and sending volunteer servers. Safeway donates the apple juice for the season.
Each of the following organizations bring sides, desserts and personnel: Church of the Eternal Hills, Grand County Jewish Community, Lady of the Snow Roman Catholic, Lord of the Valley Lutheran, St. John’s Episcopal, Advocates, Fraser Valley Lion’s Club and Mountain Family Center.
Regina Quinn of High Mountain Catering shares much of her equipment and orders supplies.
Last year, Cranmer served 1,552 meals, 32 people at a time. The main course and paper products are paid for through donations from each of the churches. We offer a “meals on wheels” for shut-ins in Fraser Valley and would extend it to Granby if there are a few people willing to pick up and deliver.
Ken Von der Heiden is the deliveryman. Jim McGill is assistant coordinator. Joan Von der Heiden in Senior Coordinator. Volunteers are always welcome. Call Joan at 726-5189. Volunteers are especially needed for Jan. 1.
Mark your calendars for the Friday night dinners at Cranmer Memorial Chapel: Nov. 26, Dec. 4, Dec. 18, Jan. 1, Jan. 15, Jan. 29, Feb. 15, Feb. 26, March 12, March 26 and April 9.
