Fruita voters approve pot tax

Voters in Fruita approved a medical marijuana tax Tuesday by a wide margin, according to unofficial election results.

A total of 59.79 percent of the voters cast ballots in favor of the measure, while 36.51 were opposed.

The 5 percent sales tax is scheduled to go into effect May 1. The town does not yet have any medical marijuana dispensaries.
