Funds available for irrigation projects on private property

The Middle Park Conservation District recently received grant funding through the Colorado State Conservation Board, under the Colorado Department of Agriculture, to assist landowners with on-the-ground irrigation projects. The funds are to be allocated to landowners who wish to replace, upgrade, or install new irrigation structures on their properties. Depending on the number of eligible applicants and projects submitted, each recipient may receive $3,000 or more of matching funds. Application criteria included: Projects must address irrigation or irrigation-induced soil erosion control; new or replacement of old structures; landowners shall be a Grand or Summit County ag producer or smaller landowner with water rights; landowners will provide a 50 percent match with the district; district Funds will only pay for materials; specs must meet NRCS approval; landowner must have the ability to complete project by Nov. 20, 2014.

The Middle Park Conservation District received this same grant in 2013 and dispersed nearly $19,000 to landowners for irrigation projects. Projects included installation of check and turnout structures, head gates, underground pipe, and gated pipe. They hope to disperse closer to $24,000 this year.

Applications can be downloaded online at or by visiting the Middle Park Conservation District office at 106 S. 2nd St. Kremmling, CO. Call 970.724.3456, or email, with questions or to have an application mailed to you.

Applications are due by April 1.
