Funeral planned for slain Limon officer

LIMON, Colo. (AP) – Funeral services are planned for the first Limon officer killed in the line of duty.

The services for 27-year-old Jay Sheridan are planned Tuesday at the Limon High School gymnasium at 11 a.m. There will be a graveside service afterward.

Authorities say Sheridan was shot March 9 while trying to serve a Tennessee warrant on a suspect who was wanted on a sex offender registry violation. The suspect, 52-year-old Dennis Mark Hasty, was later found dead after a 4-hour standoff. Authorities say he apparently shot himself.

Chief Lynn Yowell says Sheridan is the first Limon officer killed in the line of duty.
