Give Winter Park Veterans Rally a chance to succeed
September 17, 2008
To the Editor:
Our understanding was that the Veterans Rally was being given three years to make this event a success. This event and its mission were bigger than any one event we have ever seen in the valley since owning the Gasthaus. It actually made our entire month of August.
The Veterans Rally has so much room to grow, thus bringing more guests and revenues in to the town of Winter Park. The potential is huge as we as Americans will continue to recognize those protecting our country and freedom.
An event like this typically would not do well during the first year and they were faced with such adversity during the second year: a snow storm, incomplete town park … We view the promoter as someone who actually salvaged the weekend for the town as the cancellation of the Hawgfest had such an adverse affect on many of us.
Should the town and residents have valid concerns with this event, they should be addressed directly with the promoter so that they may be rectified. Keep in mind that it is tough to survive as a business and we are dependent on outside visitors to keep us afloat.
We sincerely hope that this decision will be overturned and that in the future business owners will be given an opportunity to provide feedback, especially on events that can make or break our business.
