GOP chairman Michael Steele to visit Colorado

DENVER (AP) – Republican Party chairman Michael Steele is coming to Colorado.

The state party says Steele will visit volunteers at party headquarters on Thursday morning in Greenwood Village.

His appearance in Colorado will be his first since he came under fire for calling the nine-year-old conflict in Afghanistan a mistaken “war of Obama’s choosing.” He’s expected to remain on as chairman though because the party wants to avoid a drawn-out fight over the party’s most prominent African-American before the midterm elections.

Steele is also expected to appear at events in Nevada and Washington State later this week.

Steele had been set to appear in Aspen at the Ideas Festival on Wednesday but canceled.
