Gov. Hickenlooper, stakeholders will announce historic water deal in Grand County on Thursday
Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper is visiting Grand County on Thursday for the announcement of the historic “Colorado River Cooperative Agreement” for water management and supply.
At Devil’s Thumb Ranch starting at 9 a.m., leaders from Denver Water and the West Slope will give details of a proposed agreement that addresses water supply challenges for Denver Water and the greater metropolitan area, as well as water supply and environmental needs on Colorado’s West Slope.
The proposed Colorado River Cooperative Agreement is the result of five years of “global negotiations.” Representing some other major water stakeholders, those scheduled to be present include Eric Kuhn of the Colorado River District, Jim Lochhead of Denver Water, James Newberry of Grand County, Thomas Davidson of Summit County, Glenn Porzak of Eagle County water agencies and the ski industry and Keith Lambert of Rifle
