Gov. Ritter orders flags lowered to honor Marine

DENVER (AP) – Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter has ordered that flags on all state and federal buildings be lowered to half staff in honor of Marine Lance Cpl. Jose Hernandez.

The 19-year-old Hernandez was killed in combat Dec. 14 in the Helmand Province of Afghanistan. His funeral is Thursday at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Pueblo.

Hernandez was born in Iowa and spent his childhood in Pueblo. His mother still lives there.
