Granby Elementary students hope to raise funds by chipping Christmas trees

A student fundraising effort makes use of retired Christmas trees.
From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Jan. 2 and Jan. 9, for $5 per tree, individuals may dispose of their post-holiday evergreens at Granby Elementary School, where fifth-graders are raising funds for an end-of-the-school-year “Making Memories” train trip to Glenwood Springs.
Mountain Parks Electric and the Asplundh tree company are teaming up to assist fifth-graders by transporting and mulching the trees.
The wood from the trees will be returned to the elementary school in wood chips for the school’s playground surface, according to parents group fundraising organizer Kathy Acord, whose daughter is in the class.
